The indolent script labors all over the place in the way it owes its nod to countless other flicks ranging from Redford's own "Brubaker" to "Stalag 17".
The original story, by David Scarpa (with the screenplay co written with veteran scribe Graham Yost), starts off feeling a lot like an earlier Robert Redford film, "Brubaker."
The character of Buckaroo started as a sprig of an idea in the mind of W.D. Richter, who found a screenwriting hot hand in the late 1970s with reinventions of “Dracula” and “Invasion of the Body Snatchers,” as well as the Robert Redford prison drama “Brubaker.”
