It all started with a short that director Sam Raimi made in 1978 called Within the Woods; it was shot with a tiny budget, with the director calling in favours from his friends to appear in it, such as Bruce Campbell, hoping to attract investors into backing a full feature.
Amazingly it’s been over 40 years since Sam Raimi’s ‘deadites’ crawled out of the woods to menace Bruce Campbell and friends (or longer if you count his The Evil Dead tryout short Within the Woods from 1978).
La franquicia Evil Dead abarca en primera instancia la trilogía original dirigida por Sam Raimi y protagonizada por Bruce Campbell en el rol de Ash Williams, léase Diabólico ( The Evil Dead , 1981), Noche Alucinante ( Evil Dead II , 1987) y El Ejército de las Tinieblas ( Army of Darkness , 1992), la segunda sin duda la mejor del lote y las otras dos asimismo muy disfrutables, combo a su vez precedido por un corto muy poco conocido incluso entre la fauna cinéfila que se dice devota, Dentro del Bosque ( Within the Woods , 1978), primera verdadera incursión del equipo de Raimi y Campbell en el satanismo bucólico polirubro, y en segundo lugar vienen el excelente y algo tardío reboot Posesión Infernal ( Evil Dead , 2013), del uruguayo Fede Álvarez, y la simpática serie Ash vs. Evil Dead (2015-2018), desarrollada a lo largo de tres temporadas para Starz por Tom Spezialy, el chiflado de Sam y su hermano mayor Ivan Raimi, por supuesto con Campbell regresando como Williams.
Its not so clear why this is so, in Evil Dead, a reimagining of Sam Raimis several versions (from the short Within the Woods forward).
Raimi co-wrote the script with his brother, Ivan, and what they created is a return to form for the director, who in some circles is best known for his “Spider-Man” movies than he is for his early cult films, including such camp horror classics as “The Evil Dead” series, “Army of Darkness” and the lesser-known “Within the Woods.”
