Silent Movie (1976)

Aspiring filmmakers Mel Funn, Marty Eggs and Dom Bell go to a financially troubled studio with an idea for a silent movie. In an effort to make the movie more marketable, they attempt to recruit a number of big name stars to appear, while the studio's creditors attempt to thwart them.

My favorite knocks a different religion: While Mel Brooks parodied 1970s corporate takeovers in "Silent Movie," Smith is a harsher satirist, sending his avenging angels into the boardroom of a corporation that has made a fortune off a Mickey Mouse-style golden calf.
Mel Brooks made it look like a higher form, in films such as Silent Movie and High Anxiety, but it's mostly just the pointless expression of obsessive fandom.
