Airport 1975 (1974)

When an in-flight collision incapacitates the pilots of an airplane bound for Los Angeles, stewardess Nancy Pryor is forced to take over the controls. From the ground, her boyfriend Alan Murdock, a retired test pilot, tries to talk her through piloting and landing the 747 aircraft. Worse yet, the anxious passengers — among which are a noisy nun and a cranky man — are aggravating the already tense atmosphere.

What critics compared Airport 1975 to
The “Zero Hour” crisis situation (how to get the airplane down) was also borrowed for the terrible “ Airport 1975 ,” in which Karen Black played a stewardess who tried to follow instructions radioed from the ground.
Each of these folks gets a mini-narrative — Weathers only feels alive on a mountain peak, but he’s promised wife Peach ( Robin Wright ) that this is his last one; mailman Doug got close to the summit last year and is determined to go all the way; Yasuko has climbed six of the seven summits of Everest and wants a clean sweep – not unlike the all-star cast of something like “Airport 1975.”
Just over 40 years ago, California got rocked to the ground in "Earthquake," part of a disaster-film epidemic in 1974 that included "The Towering Inferno" and "Airport 1975."
