What critics compared The Lion in Winter to

The King poster
What Movies Will It Remind You Of?: The King is one of those aristocrats-bloviating-in-firelit-castles movies ( The Lion in Winter , things Kenneth Branagh directed in the ’90s, miscellaneous Elizabeth s, etc.) mixed with a classic, gory battle epic.

Robin and Marian poster
Part of the reason is a bad screenplay by James Goldman, who wrote the excellent play The Lion in Winter.
Robin and Marian is what you'd get if you gene-spliced ''Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid'' with ''Rooster Cogburn'': Screenwriter James Goldman, author of ''The Lion in Winter'' (and brother of ''Butch'' scripter William), takes a late-life look at Robin Hood.

That's all the connections!
