The Blob (1958)

A drive-in favorite, this sci-fi classic follows teenagers Steve and his best girl, Jane, as they try to protect their hometown from a gelatinous alien life form that engulfs everything it touches. The first to discover the substance and live to tell about it, Steve and Jane witness the blob destroying an elderly man, then it growing to a terrifying size. But no one else has seen the goo, and policeman Dave refuses to believe the kids without proof.

What critics compared The Blob to
No one would look at The Blob and call it “elevated horror,” but it’s arguably making more of a statement than Backrooms.
In The Blob (1958) an ever-expanding ball of jelly terrorises a small town.
AMORPHOUS extraterrestrial aggressors have come a long way since The Blob (1958).
So, as the viewer quickly discovers, life on Mars was probably a total shit show, because this globular nasty—a distant cousin of Steve McQueen’s The Blob—digs on killing everything in its path.
At one point, the town’s inept police force of two discuss the 1958 Steve McQueen movie, “The Blob.”

Just like in The Blob (1958), a meteor crashes down to earth containing an icky slug, and it inhabits the body of local redneck Grant Grant (Michael Rooker).
