20 Million Miles to Earth (1957)

When the first manned flight to Venus returns to Earth, the rocket crash-lands in the Mediterranean near a small Italian fishing village. The locals manage to save one of the astronauts Colonel Calder, the mission commander. A young boy also recovers what turns out to be a specimen of an alien creature. Growing at a fantastic rate, it manages to escape and eventually threatens the city of Rome.

And that's because director Ridley Scott and screenwriters Dan O'Bannon and Ronald Shusett brilliantly brought together genres (sci-fi and horror), re-imagined combining elements of "20 Million Miles to Earth" and "It!
Whether it was the Cyclops and dragon in "The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad," the Allosaurus in "The Valley of the Gwangi" (and other such critters in "One Million Years B.C." -- not to mention Raquel Welch), the title character in "The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms" or the alien monster in "20 Million Miles to Earth," I couldn't get enough of such creations.
Having just seen this film, a slightly more accurate description would be "20 Million Miles to Earth" (the 1950s Ray Harryhausen monster from Venus flick) meets "Real Steel" (the Hugh Jackman boxing robots movie) by way of most any Japanese monster movie ("Godzilla," "Mothra," etc.) from decades ago.
