12 Angry Men (1957)

The defense and the prosecution have rested and the jury is filing into the jury room to decide if a young Spanish-American is guilty or innocent of murdering his father. What begins as an open and shut case soon becomes a mini-drama of each of the jurors' prejudices and preconceptions about the trial, the accused, and each other.

The construction of Reginald Rose's teleplay departs from Hitchcock's Murder! (Sir John versus the chorus of peers), Sidney Lumet in his first film records it as a meticulous laboratory experiment, a clammy orchestra.
The lass sits in her cell like Dreyer�s Joan, cross-shaped shadow and all, prosecution and defense come and go and then it�s up to the jury to decide in a pulsing little set-piece that�s like 12 Angry Men compressed to ten minutes.
Marty was followed by adaptations of two other Chayefsky dramas, The Bachelor Party (1957) and Middle of the Night (1959), as well as adaptations of TV dramas by Rod Serling (1956’s Patterns and 1962’s Requiem for a Heavyweight) and J. P. Miller (1959’s The Rabbit Trap and 1962’s Days of Wine and Roses).
Based on the play by Tennessee Williams, The Fugitive Kind surely marked Marlon Brando's attempt to replicate the success he had with A Streetcar Named Desire (which was only the actor's second film role).
