In New York City, an insolent pickpocket, Skip McCoy, inadvertently sets off a chain of events when he targets ex-prostitute Candy and steals her wallet. Unaware that she has been making deliveries of highly classified information to the communists, Candy, who has been trailed by FBI agents for months in hopes of nabbing the spy ringleader, is sent by her ex-boyfriend, Joey, to find Skip and retrieve the valuable microfilm he now holds.

What critics compared Pickup on South Street to
Hill leeches the notion of underworld loyalty out of the Pickup on South Street homage (Ronee Blakley in her hotel room) and reclaims his own bit of business from The Getaway (a valise of money in a train) to lend it metaphysical heft.
At the party (which Godard impishly washes with a variety of monochromes), the only conversation of interest comes from American director Samuel Fuller (Pickup on South Street).

The late writer-director Sam Fuller (Pickup on South Street, Shock Corridor), who gets a heartfelt "Thanks for everything" credit at the end of Jackie Brown, used to crank out one movie like this per year, sometimes more.
