In many ways, “Grown Ups 2” reminds me of “The Love Guru” with less focus and less cohesion.
They are lumbered by a script that seems to have drawn inspiration from Mike Myers' 2008 turkey The Love Guru, with its penile obsessions and lame religion-themed plot, rather than Ramis's avowed influences of the historical comedies of Monty Python and Mel Brooks.
Finally, virtually disappearing under mounds of prosthetics and make-up, Mike Myers (2008's " The Love Guru ") is terrific as British General Ed Fenech, proving that he is capable of much more than just slapstick shtick.Knowledgeable about world cinema and its potential sways of power while at the same time loftily avant-garde in its delirious reconstruction of history, "Inglourious Basterds" is smart, defiant and hugely entertaining.
Even at two and a half hours, the picture is packed wall-to-wall with good stuff, from a surprisingly effective non-winking Mike Myers cameo (which almost makes me willing to forgive him for The Love Guru) to Hostel director Eli Roth playing a baseball bat-wielding Basterd, to Brad Pitt's thick Tennessee accent.
The Dictator does for Sacha Baron Cohen what The Love Guru did for Mike Myers: Reveal that this sharp, revered comedian with an uncanny ear for absurdist humor is a mere mortal capable of great folly.
