The rest of the performers, including Brittany Daniel ("The Basketball Diaries"), Kid Rock (the singer making his feature film debut), Jamie Pressly ("Tomcats," "Ringmaster") and Joe Don Baker ("Tomorrow Never Dies," "Cape Fear") all deliver the same sort of uninspired caricatures.
Much of their antics are so contrived with scenes that rip straight from better movies ala the salon scene which rips from “Legally Blonde”, the hopping dog sequence from “There’s Something about Mary” and the basic plot which rips right from “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”.
New York Minute borrows liberally from other films with references to John Woo's Hong Kong chop socky, Legally Blonde, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, School of Rock, Something about Mary, but that's not the worst of its problems.
He has even crazier plans for her, but Salt has her own plans, one of which involves dressing up like a dude who’s about as convincing as Amanda Bynes in What a Girl Wants .
Warner Brothers seems to have crossed Disney's "The Parent Trap" with "The Princess Diaries," but this is actually based on a 1958 play, "The Reluctant Debutante," by William Douglas Home.
It would appear both movies are stealing dozens of pages from the script of "The Princess Diaries," the surprise smash from the summer of 2001 (in fact, "Lizzie" even advertises itself as being "from the studio that brought you 'The Princess Diaries'").
Ostensibly written by Mr. Sandler and "Joe Dirt" scribe Fred Wolf, "Grown Ups" reunites five elementary school buddies for the funeral of their beloved basketball coach.
Co-written by Sandler with Fred Wolf (“Joe Dirt”), “Grown Ups” is a cliched variation on “The Big Chill” with a quintent of friends from childhood reuniting after the death of the coach who long ago guided them to a basketball championship.
It’s evident that Sandler couldn’t even be bothered to write the script he’s credited to having penned with Joe Dirt scribe Fred Wolf.
This film has only the suggestion of a script, credited to Sandler and Fred Wolf (whose screenwriting credits include such noteworthy titles as “Joe Dirt” and “Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star”).
