The good news is that we haven't had a theatrical Christmas horror film since Black Christmas back in 2006, although that film pretty much flopped with $17 million after a December 25 opening.
Right from the opening credits (which features a darkly amusing animated segment set to Shirley Walker's Danny Elfman-esque score), it's obvious that Morgan's going for a gothic vibe - the sort of look that Burton used to excel at (before he started making movies like Planet of the Apes ).
Zac Efron fails to impress with his first major headlining roleMatthew Perry (2004's " The Whole Ten Yards ") plays the older version of Mike with more depth and less screen timewhile game supporting performances from Leslie Mann (2008's " Drillbit Taylor "), Michelle Trachtenberg (2006's " Black Christmas ") and Thomas Lennon (2009's " I Love You, Man ") are wasted on a tone-deaf, half-written script that does them no favors.
Mice come in the form of Mickey Mouse, Jerry from "Tom and Jerry," Stuart Little or little prison friends such as in "The Green Mile" and "Escape From Alcatraz."
