I was hoping to watch Uberto Pasolini’s The Return (2024), which focuses on Odysseus’ journey back to Ithaca, before seeing this one.
Previous attempts to grapple with Homer’s epic veered into schlocky melodrama (Ulysses in 1954), artsy meditation (The Return in 2024) or comic metaphor O Brother, Where Art Thou? in 2000).
2024's The Return, starring Ralph Fiennes, is great, but it only depicts the last act of Homer's work…
…he is one reason where “The Odyssey” beat “The Return.”
