Wilbur the pig's voice is that of child actor Dominic Scott Kay, who shone as Kyra Sedgwick's overindulged son in Loverboy, but who veers toward the cloying here.
Director James McTeigue ("V for Vendetta") has created a nicely crafted film with loads of atmosphere and grisly crime scenes, but screenwriters Ben Livingston and Hannah Shakespeare ("Loverboy") fail utterly with this insipid twist on Stephen King's "Misery."
And screenwriters Ben Livingston (an actor turned first-time writer) and Hannah Shakespeare (who scripted Kevin Bacon’s directorial debut, Loverboy ) start in an interesting direction by making Poe not a hero so much as a tortured, railing victim, distinctly in Evans’ debt and his intellectual shadow.
