Leonardo DiCaprio plays Rick Dalton, a fading television actor who once starred in his own western series (“Bounty Law,” a combination of “Wanted: Dead or Alive” and a bunch of other cowboy shows), now guest-starring as the bad guy in pretty much every series on television, including real-life shows “The FBI,” “Mannix,” and “Lancer.”
Rick became a major small-screen star in the 1950s on a western series called Bounty Law (clearly modeled on the 1958–1961 series Wanted: Dead or Alive, which launched Steve McQueen’s career) and then tried and mostly failed to make the transition into feature films (he starred in a few forgettable action romps, including one where he wears an eyepatch and decimates a room full of Nazis with a flamethrower).
Lately, Rick's career has been on the wane, causing the star of a once-popular show "Bounty Law" (modeled after Steve McQueen's "Wanted: Dead or Alive") to fall into alcohol-fueled despair.
I have not seen such energetic and creative mirror work done on screen since Joseph Losey’s 1963 slow burn psychodrama The Servant, or Gary Sherman’s technically adroit Poltergeist III.
For those hoping to find some truly disturbing secrets buried for generations beneath the surface, track down Gary Sherman’s 1972 “Death Line” (aka “Raw Meat”) instead.
