Much of what has come down the assembly line has been throwaway entertainment (“M3GAN”, “Subservience”, etc.).

Naturally, when Iris reacts violently to Sergey’s inappropriate behaviour, audiences will be forgiven for anticipating something reminiscent of recent science-fiction thrillers such as M3GAN (2022) and Subservience (2024).
Films like The Stepford Wives (1975) then, serve as furious feminist rejoinders, offering a disdainful view of the subtext that animates these perennially subjugated, gussied up Brides of Frankenstein.
This is a shame because when it sticks to its guns with the central plot thread, the film is a decently constructed and occasionally provocative look at the grim realities of contemporary medical care that ends up getting kicked to the side by all of the other nonsense.The Australian importclearly wants to present itself to viewers as a combination of "Groundhog Day" (a film which it namecheck throughout) and the twee British romcoms of Richard Curtis (specifically the largely forgettable "About Time") but ultimately proves itself to be little more than a slightly rancid exercise in hard-sell whimsy that offers up a potentially interesting conceit and then fails to make much of anything out of it.
Director S.K. Dale thaws the frigid “romanticism” in Jason Carvey’s screenplay, as the ludicrous concept elicits far more winces than eye-rolls and is certainly no Swiss Army Man fantasy.
