His fellow "SNL" alum Mike Myers has done something similar with the Austin Powers series: he plays different characters within the same movie.
"The Master of Disguise" feels like nothing less than Dana Carvey's desperate bid for his own "Austin Powers"-like franchise, but with a harmless humor far less crude.
Unfortunately, and unlike Myers' success doing the latter in his "Austin Powers" movies, the resultant "The Master of Disguise" is a horrific train wreck of a movie.
But if The Master Of Disguise is his attempt at creating an Austin Powers-type franchise, he's got a long way to go.
Now, Myers is an even hotter comic commodity, thanks to the "Austin Powers" series.
Fast-forward ten years however and it’s Myers who’s the household name, thanks to the phenomenal success of the Austin Powers franchise and Carvey is left floundering in his wake.
The ragged corrective editing gives a good indication of how badly this thing went off track during production; I haven't seen a bigger mess in wide release since Dana Carvey's career-terminating The Master of Disguise (2002).
And then Will (Cole Sprouse: TV’s Riverdale, The Master of Disguise) arrives.
