Jack’s bubble ship and sky condo have all the polish of any given iDevice; the evident destruction of New York City landmarks bring to mind “Planet of the Apes,” if somehow nothing else; while a bomb-minded resistance movement led by the Morpheus-like Beech (Morgan Freeman) more specifically evokes “Beneath the Planet of the Apes.”
Then makes "Beneath the Planet of the Apes" anyway.

The set-up of "The Baby" also echoes "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?" and some of the other "hag horror" California Gothic movies inspired by Robert Aldrich's hit.
Batman cultivates himself as a symbol of hope and justice, but also inspires mob retaliation and the appearance (shades of Magnum Force) of lookalike vigilantes more bloodthirsty than himself.
One of the biggest fears for the first half was that there was going to be this inevitable turn in to a pure “Magnum Force” rip off, and we almost did.

Why Glover's character persists in his delusion after a Hang 'em High mishap is beyond me, especially when certain clues are given away in an end-of-movie flashback that erases any hesitation that Glover's detective should have no doubt about the identity of the killer all along.
