Did he really mean to stage a search through the woods that recalls the one in Joe Roth’s Freedomland (2006)?

John Cusack has picked another intelligent script (no I am not referencing that crapfest America's Sweethearts ).
As someone who’s known for his attachment to quality movies, Cusack has had trouble identifying killer scripts lately; for every Being John Malkovich and High Fidelity there’s an America’s Sweethearts and a Pushing Tin.
The film is adapted by Richard Price from his novel, and the impressive array of unassuming genre films in Price’s filmography (Ransom, Shaft, Kiss of Death) may begin to shed some light on what happened to Freedomland.
