The title is an homage to Toshiro Mifune, the Japanese master thespian whose role in Akira Kurosawa's "Seven Samurai" was the inspiration for Kresten's and his brother's favorite childhood role-playing game.
The two main characters, Cynthia (Sidse Babbett Knudsen, looking rather more severe here than she did in “ Mifune ,” the 1999 Dogme film for which she’s best known in the States) and the younger Evelyn (Chiara D’Anna), who’s perhaps her protégé, are both engaged in heavy entomological studies and are also lovers.
As a parable of art-triumphing-over-Nazism, it's not as strong as the Arthur Miller-scripted 1980 TV movie "Playing for Time," and as a Warsaw ghetto survival story, it can't touch the 1997 Danish drama, "The Island on Bird Street."
