The great talent that is Alan Arkin adds yet another classic comedic interpretation to an impressive list ("The In-Laws," "Edward Scissorhands," "So I Married an Axe Murderer," "Slums of Beverly Hills") with the profane, hedonistic grandfather who tells the plump, bespectacled Olive that she is the most beautiful girl in the world.
Myers reprises his Scottish accent from "So I Married an Axe Murderer" and "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me" to great comic effect, and Murphy has never been in better form than as "a donkey with an edge."
Could someone please tell Mike Myers that after countless "If it's nae Scottish, it's crap" SNL sketches and his showboating roles as the apoplectic dad in So I Married an Axe Murderer and Fat Bastard in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, his mock-Scottish accent no longer equals instant hilarity?
Myers imbues the ogre with the same Scottish voice he has used on many previous occasions (the father in So I Married an Axe Murderer, Fat Bastard in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, and several SNL sketches).
