And the AI gone bad angle not only has been done before (for home automation, that might have started with "Demon Seed" back in 1977) but also isn't used in any particular creative or imaginative way by Smith or director Lars Klevberg.
That silliness aside, the idea of Chucky having control over it all is barely even followed through on, and while no one’s asking for some Demon Seed -like shenanigans there’s a lot of room to play that’s never even attempted.
While producers Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg may have found success in 2017’s horror remake phenom, “IT,” the two struggle to find footing in Orion‘s latest attempt at playing in the playpen of ’80s horror nostalgia.
This is clearly an attempt to recreate something from 2017’s It , the highest-grossing horror movie ever.
One of the more fun aspects aside from the casual humor sewn throughout is the teaming up that places during the climax of the film, where we definitely see influences from the producers who did 2017’s “IT”.
With It (2017) and Halloween (2018) blowing fans away with their fresh takes on old-school horror, it seems fitting that Chucky gets an opportunity to garner new fans.
Although the automatic correlation to make with M3GAN is that it’s a mere pale imitation of the Child’s Play movies (particularly the 2019 one), at the core of the story is “the Baby Boom narrative.”
Funny enough, the one example that comes close is the divisive Child’s Play reboot from 2019, wherein Chucky was reimagined as an A.I. robot.
