Others enjoyed “Obvious Child” more than I, and this past spring’s “Saint Frances” had a refreshingly adult take on the topic.
There’s drag racing, unhinged pro-life activists, and a fun appearance from Giancarlo Esposito as Bob, a libertarian conspiracy theorist and occasional limo driver who definitely feels modeled after Hunt for the Wilderpeople ’s Psycho Sam.
They struggle at first with a dynamic that's too familiar from other teen films (notably 2019's " Booksmart ," with which it awkwardly shares comic bits), but their performances grow in depth and effectiveness with each new stop along the road.
